Grade 10 English class could have been the end to my literary interests, as my teacher was not the encouraging type. She instead focused on the faults of students and not their strengths, and could make an hour long English class extremely painful.
I barley passed that class with a 50% average, not a good start to my high school career.
The following year, I took an English 20/30 and had the most inspiring teacher. Mrs. Beagun chose to see each student as an individual and offer the encouragement needed to succeed.
My over all average in this class ended up as a 90%, a far cry from my 50% in the previous years class with Mrs. "Boring".
I then went onto college, taking a creative writing class and enjoyed it immensely. My career path of choice didn't require me to use my writing skills on a daily basis so I sort of let it fall by the wayside.
Reading has always been a part of my life. Going through fits of reading lots of novels to hardly reading anything. Life got busy, with a few good reads along the way.
It wasn't until I discovered the Twilight series by Stephanie Myer that I became a literary junkie once again. Loving the series and reading each of the four book set more than two times each, it lead me down some different paths I may not have come across otherwise.
The Twilight Saga movies are also high on my "love" list. I have followed the press junkets of the cast learning that most of them are literary buffs as well. It has given me some guidance to my book choices.
I have made 2010 the year to do things I have always wanted to do. Starting a book club has been high on my priority list for some time now, so starting Women, Wine, & Wit has been an exciting journey thus far. Getting together with a great group of ladies and discussing our reads has been great fun.
Also, writing has been another tab on my want to do list and I have put it off for so long not knowing how to start. Having doubts about my skills and wondering if anybody would even want to read my ramblings.
My good friend has a blog, and makes a point of writing more often than I do on my other family blog, and I have been inspired by her writing and decided that I needed to in the words of NIKE "Just Do It".
Not necessarily post entries for other people , but for ME. Being a Mom of two boys is the best and most rewarding experience in the world, but with the recent inception of the book club and other reads, I have come to realize that I need to be an individual Woman for myself along with being a Mom and Wife.
I hope to look forward to posting entries on this blog, and being able to look back at previous posts and notice a difference in my writing skills along the way.
Awesome! So glad you are "doing it." I am looking forward to following you on this writing journey and being inspired by your ramblings! Love the background too!
